Hike up Rollins Peak (the first mountain your kids should climb)
Stage Stop (bar/dining/live music), say hi to Tim at the Mercantile antique shop, mountain bike to a ghost town, squish pennies on the train track, target practice archery & pellet guns, look for the fox den, look for crystals, watch hummingbird wars, feed the Stellar's jays, build fairy houses on our rocks, watch the sun set over the continental divide with a beverage of your choice, roast marshmallows and watch meteor showers.

NEDERLAND (8 minutes away):

GILPIN (8 minutes away):
Rec center swimming, Geocahing along the Peak-to-Peak, old west cemetery

MOFFAT TRAIN TUNNEL (25 minutes away):
ghost town, historic train tunnel under the continental divide, hike Indian Peaks Wilderness/James Peak Wilderness, Continental Divide, wildflowers, waterfall & scenery

BLACKHAWK / CENTRAL CITY (20 minutes away):
casinos, horse rides, old cemeteries, historic ghost walks, fishing lake

BOULDER (30 minutes away): Boulder Falls, farmers market (+ arts/crafts/food trucks/hippie drum circles), Pearl Street (street performers, kids play areas/fountains), big-city conveniences, dining, shopping, Celestial Seasoningstubing/play in the river

GOLDEN (40 minutes away):
Pan for gold, float/tube the river, tour the Coors brewery, Buffalo Bill's grave, dinosaur fossil park

IDAHO SPRINGS (40 minutes away):
Gold mine/mill tour with gold panning (guaranteed success), shop, eat, cute old Victorian mining town, pinball arcade/bar, old train for kids to climb on, river rafting

ST. MARY'S GLACIER (1 hour away):
Short hike to an alpine lake and glacier - if you want to hike to snow in July, this is your hike (crowded on weekends) fly fish, see tundra plants and animals

GOLD HILL (46 minutes away):
cute little mining town, general store/coffee shop, historic self guided tour of town, home of one of the best (and smallest) public schools in America

DINO RIDGE (54 minutes away):
See where dinosaur bones come from, see dino tracks, kids activities and museum

JAMESTOWN (54 minutes away):
Rockhound, adorable/tiny old mining town

ESTES PARK (1 hour away):
shop, visit the Stanley Hotel from The Shining, ghost tours, visit Rocky Mountain Nat. Park

ROCKY MOUNTAIN NATIONAL PARK (1 hour away):
Hike, Camp, Picnic, wildlife watching, visit Estes Park

LYONS (1 hour away):
kayak, river play/float, watch kayakers/play in the park, art/sculpture walk along river, galleries, little shops, Pinball Arcade (awesome!)
